Greetings, and welcome to my e-Portfolio.
Thank you for taking the time to review my materials in consideration for promotion to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in the Howard University Cathy Hughes School of Communications, Department of Media, Journalism and Film.
This portfolio documents my work as a scholar, educator, audio engineer, producer, and creative practitioner during my probationary period at Howard University. Throughout these pages you will find evidence of my teaching, research and creative activities, service, and professional development, along with representative projects that illustrate my contributions to the University, my discipline, and the broader public.
My scholarly agenda is guided by a central question:
How can sound be intentionally designed to strengthen human connection, support care, advance learning, and preserve culture?
To explore this question, I have developed a practice-based program of research that I describe as Social Sonic Design—an interdisciplinary framework examining how immersive audio and sound design influence communication, memory, well-being, identity, and public life. My work bridges creative production and scholarly inquiry, using professional media practice not only to create artistic works, but also to generate knowledge, build institutional capacity, and expand opportunities for students.
The projects presented throughout this portfolio span immersive music production, film and podcast post-production, communication research, public scholarship, curriculum innovation, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Collectively, they demonstrate my commitment to translating professional expertise into meaningful educational experiences, nationally recognized creative scholarship, and service that advances Howard University's mission of excellence in truth and service.
I invite you to explore the portfolio through the navigation tabs, where each section provides supporting documentation, representative artifacts, and additional evidence aligned with the University's criteria for promotion and tenure.
Thank you again for your thoughtful consideration and for the time you have devoted to reviewing my record. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my career to contribute to Howard University's legacy through teaching, scholarship, creative practice, and service. I look forward to continuing that work in the years ahead.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Malachi, M.A.
